UC Santa Barbara's Newly Transformed & Expanded Library Opens

January 15, 2016
The grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded Library at the University of California, Santa Barbara was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 15, 2016. The 379,000-square-foot library boasts a high ceilinged, glass-fronted entryway, filled with natural light. The "library of the future" contains student computer stations, small and large group meeting rooms as well as a café. The three-story facility is the scholastic and social heart of campus, housing both digital and print research collections, as well as an extensive special collections department and art library. The new addition functions as a 24/7 information common space, programmed for open study and interactive uses, and includes a new paseo to improve visibility of library spaces and connection to outdoor spaces and the rest of campus. The UCSB's new Library encourages collaboration, research and communication and is accessible not only to the University of Santa Barbara's students and faculty, but the general public, as well.
