Our project at Mount Royal University, the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, has also been recognized with a 2017 Merit Award by the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT), along with the Musco Center for the Performing Arts at Chapman University. The Taylor Centre’s 800-seat Bella Concert Hall, featuring a wooden acoustic canopy in the shape of the Alberta rose, is ringed by teaching studios, practice rooms, classrooms, and a large rehearsal/recital space, paneled in perforated wood with an origami-inspired ceiling designed to reflect sound. The LEED Gold-certified building presents a dramatic new front door at the East Gate of the campus and has set a new standard for music instruction in Canada.
