Science Museum of Virginia's New Dewey Gottwald Center Opens with Inaugural Gala

April 8, 2017
The Science Museum of Virginia celebrated the opening of its new exhibit and event center, the Dewey Gottwald Center with a fundraising black-tie gala. The 24,000-sf addition adds exhibition space and an iconic facility for special events to the historic Broad Street rail station, a landmarked structure on the National Register of Historic Places. Our work began with a master plan, which increased the amount of exhibit and program space, increased daylighting, improved wayfinding, updated systems, and added visitor amenities. Pulling the event space into a separate addition allowed it a distinct identity and the ability to function independently, without disrupting museum activities.
