Austin Community College

Highland Learning Center

Austin, Texas

We collaborated with O’Connell Robertson on the master plan and space program for Austin Community College’s Highland Campus, formerly a two-story indoor shopping mall. ACC Highland is part of an 80-acre urban redevelopment plan envisioned as a landmark destination and an energized student environment, supporting regional economic development through centers of learning and providing a forum for community learning and events. The master plan provides a plan for appropriate space to accommodate projected student populations for specific programs, to provide an appropriate amount of space per student, and to enhance opportunities for student enrollment. ACC currently serves more than 43,000 students with enrollment projected to increase to over 65,000 by the year 2015. The plan calls for the renovation of the interior of the mall and adds approximately 1,000,000 gsf of space to the district, expanding access to higher education and training opportunities within the growing community and the region.
