Principal Jean Marie Gath leads the firm’s master planning and programming efforts, focusing primarily on arts and academic facilities, developing detailed space programs and feasibility studies for clients looking to build new facilities and/or retrofit existing. She is a skilled facilitator, working with a wide range of clients to build consensus amongst groups with diverse points of view. Jean also participates in the firm’s strategic planning efforts. Over the past three decades, she has led the programming, planning and design, from the ground up, of two new liberal arts campuses—Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California and Yale/ N.U.S. (National University of Singapore) Campus in Singapore. She’s also developed comprehensive housing/implementation plans for UCLA’s Northwest Campus and the University of Washington’s North Campus; and developed campus-wide master plans for Brooklyn College, Barnard College and Sarah Lawrence University, among many others. As co-author of “Cultural Centers” in Building Type Basics for College and University Facilities (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.), Jean has assisted a wide range of university, non-profit organizations and civic clients in planning for new arts and cultural facilities. Jean is an Associate Member of the AIA, a member of the Society for College and University Planning and a founding member of the Institute for Urban Design. She is also on the Board of Directors of Fundación Amistad, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultural and educational exchanges between peoples of the United States and Cuba.
