Packed Gala Opens New Center for Performing Arts at Prince George's Community College

October 26, 2019
A large celebratory crowd gathered for the opening of the new Center for Performing Arts at Prince George's Community College in Largo, Maryland. Our design for the Center replaces the 1967 Queen Anne Fine Arts Building, retaining and renovating the 800-seat Hallam Theater, and transforming the building into a state-of-the-art facility serving both the College and the greater community of Prince George's County. The new 178,000 sf facility—the largest building on campus—enhances the liberal arts departments and programs with several new performance venues: a 350-seat proscenium theater; black box theater, dance performance space; and recital hall, along with a new art gallery; TV, radio and music production facilities; scene shop; costume shop and café. The new spaces have transformed the cirricula, enabling the establishment of a much desired Dance major in the Theater curriculum, and the Music program has been designated as All-Steinway, a title held by prominent schools, such as Juilliard. Targeting LEED Silver, the Center has addressed sustainability and improved ADA access in its new incarnation.
