Brooklyn College alum Leonard Tow cut the ribbon to dedicate and officially open the new Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College. A large crowd gathered to honor Mr. Tow, who donated $10 million to the construction of the facility, and the Tow Foundation for supporting the building. Also celebrating the completion of the project were Brooklyn College President Michelle Anderson, Emily Tow Jackson, public relations mogul and alum Don Buchwald, for whom the center's 225-seat theater is named, and various officials from the City University of New York, the state and the city. Visitors toured the 62,000-sf facility, which includes the multipurpose Buchwald Theatre; an instrument and a theater rehearsal hall, that both double as performance spaces; a choral rehearsal room; the PIMA Center for Computer Music; and 30 sound isolated music studios and practice rooms.
