Pfeiffer has been selected by the University of Colorado at Boulder to create an addition to the College of Music’s Imig Building. Originally constructed in 1954, the building was expanded in 1979 and 1996 to a total of 98,881 gsf. The project includes removal of approximately 12,000 gsf of the current building and the construction of 71,000 gsf of new academic and administrative spaces in its place. The addition will allow for the College of Music’s choral, jazz, and world music programs to relocate from Macky Auditorium, where practice and rehearsal spaces are too small and acoustically challenged. In addition, the new wing incorporates a dance studio and theater rehearsal hall, facilitating a synergy of the arts. Other key programmatic elements of the addition include a 120-seat recital hall, large ensemble and chamber rehearsal spaces, faculty studios, classrooms, and dean and administrative offices. The project aims to achieve LEED Gold sustainability standards. A key component of the College’s strategic vision and capital campaign, the projects’ completion aligns with the 100-year anniversary of the College of Music while providing space for cross disciplinary collaborations with business, engineering, law and increased class offerings to non-majors.
