University of Colorado-Boulder's Warner Imig Music Building Expansion Opens
September 17, 2021
Originally scheduled to commemorate the University's centenary, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, delayed a year by the pandemic, was finally held to celebrate the opening of the 64,000-square-foot expansion of the University's Warner Imig Music Building. The Imig expansion respects the Boulder campus’s unique architectural vernacular, while crafting a bold new presence for the School of Music. An ensemble of purpose-built venues for the development and performance of music and dance is laced along a student-centered interior circulation axis that extends into the landscape. The building’s spatial organization and massing are strategically composed to express the large acoustic volumes of the program in a manner resonant with its neighboring buildings, while taking advantage of views toward campus features and to the Flatirons beyond. The program includes a new Recital/Lecture Hall, two large rehearsal spaces, a flexible rehearsal hall / performance venue, a recording studio, music labs, purpose-built spaces for choir and percussion, a dance studio, faculty teaching studios, as well as student support spaces for wellness, entrepreneurship, and administration.
