University of Colorado at Boulder

Warner Imig Music Building Addition

Boulder, Colorado

We worked with the University of Colorado at Boulder on an addition to the Imig Music Building, built in 1954 and expanded in 1979 and 1996. The project removes 12,000 gsf and adds 64,000 gsf of new academic and administrative spaces in its place. The addition allows for the College’s music programs to relocate from Macky Auditorium, where practice and rehearsal spaces are cramped and acoustically challenged. Also in the new wing are a dance studio and theater rehearsal hall, facilitating a synergy of the arts. Other key programmatic elements include a 120-seat recital hall, large ensemble and chamber rehearsal spaces, faculty studios, classrooms, and dean and administrative offices. A key component of the College’s strategic vision and capital campaign, the projects’ completion, which aligned with the 100-year anniversary of the College of Music, provides space for cross disciplinary collaborations with business, engineering, law and increased class offerings to non-majors.
