October 12, 2023
University officials, campaign leadership, USM arts students, and award-winning actor and USM graduate Tony Shalhoub took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Crewe Center for the Arts (CCFA). The new facility, named for Daniel Crewe, donor and Chair of USM's Great University Campaign, life-long supporter of the arts, and former record producer and business manager for his brother Bob Crewe, who wrote chart-topping hits for the Four Seasons. The CCFA be the focal point of artistic development and exhibition on USM’s Portland campus, enabling the Osher School of Music to grow and provide its students with the highest quality acoustical and technical practice and rehearsal spaces for music education and training. The CCFA will leverage its prominent exposure—toward both the central campus and the broader community—as a catalyst for engagement not only with music, but also with its sister arts.
